Research Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct data analysis using statistical, qualitative, and quantitative software and produce reports on the findings

  • Conduct and summarize scientific literature searches, reviews, and environmental scans

  • Maintain and update compilation of references in reference management software

  • Assist with manuscript writing for publication

  • Research and synthesize complex concepts and information to inform knowledge translation development

  • Produce effective, creative, written materials for internal and external audiences in the clear, concise, and appropriate language

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders

  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with rural and remote community organizations and individuals

  • 1-2 years’ experience in health-related research

  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods

  • Post-secondary education in Health Sciences or related discipline supplemented with one year of related research experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in managing databases and spreadsheets with strong statistical analysis, data interpretation, and writing skills

  • Advanced proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), data analysis software (Excel, SPSS, NVivo, or similar), and literature management software (EndNotes or other)

  • Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people in all levels of health care, government, and academia

  • Strong sense and understanding of  social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusivity

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships in a team setting and build collaborative cross-functional relationships

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders; Emotional Intelligence, and working seamlessly within the team, is a must

  • Flexible and capable of multi-tasking with several competing requests and changing priorities

  • Highly motivated, positive attitude, and the ability to work independently

  • Keen attention to detail, effective time management skills, and ability to learn quickly

  • Ability to resolve routine questions and problems and know when to refer more complex issues to the manager

  • Fluency in the English language is a must, communication in French is a strong asset

  • Willing to travel occasionally for work, being flexible to work after-hours to meet project deadlines
